Hayden Atkins

Hayden Atkins, Coal

Hayden Atkins is a consultant focused on the coal sector, based in New York. Prior to joining Argus, Hayden was part of Macquarie Group’s highly rated research team, where he was responsible for the analysis and forecasting of seaborne coal markets, uranium and other metals markets. Hayden also held the position of Economist, providing macroeconomic analysis on the Australian economy. He was educated at the University of Melbourne with degrees in economics and information systems.

Nick Black

Nick Black, LPG

Nick Black is a Principal in LPG Consulting with 30 years of experience in the oil and energy sector, and 25 years of involvement in the LPG market. Nick has held various positions at Argus over 23 years and was the Launch Editor of both the bimonthly Argus LPG World, which he still edits, and the daily Argus International LPG report. He has a master’s degree from Oxford University.

Anton Botev, LPG

Anton Botev is a Consultant focused on the LPG sector, based in the Latvian branch of the Russian office. Anton has worked at Argus since completing his postgraduate studies at Moscow Lomonosov State University and obtaining a PhD in mathematics in 2004.

Rodion Gumerov

Rodion Gumerov, Central Asian energy commodities

Rodion is a Research Analyst based in the Moscow office, specialising in research projects on Central Asia and the Caspian region. Prior to Argus, Rodion worked at the Russian Federation’s ministry of natural resources and environment.

A graduate of the department of political science, Lomonosov Moscow State University, he has a PhD in Political Sciences.

Kristine Klavers

Kristine Klavers, Refined products, fuels and automotive

Kristine Klavers is Argus’ Senior Vice-President of Consulting for the Americas, based in Houston.
Kristine has more than 23 years of experience in consulting and is an expert on global fuels and refining. Prior to joining Argus, she was in charge of Hart Energy’s research and consulting division where she built their global presence, established the International Fuel Quality Center, and was publisher of FUEL Magazine. Prior to joining Hart Energy in 1996, Kristine worked in the UK on the business management of oxygenated fuels for LyondellBasell, which acquired Arco Chemical in 1998, as well as a process engineer for Japanese Gasoline in Japan. 

A native of Oslo, Norway, Kristine earned her master’s degree in chemical engineering at the University of Twente, Netherlands. She also developed a catalyst for methane coupling at the Tokyo Institute of Technology in Japan that was sold to the industry and patented.

David Luff

David Luff, Natural gas

David is the manager of the Fundamentals Research and Analysis team based in London. He has extensive experience of the analysis and modelling of European power and gas markets including power generation economics and interconnector, gas storage and LNG terminal optimisation.

Prior to joining Argus, David worked for RWE Npower, where he was responsible for short-term gas hedging, gas storage asset optimisation and the management of long-term power and gas positions.
Francis Osborne

Francis Osborne, Head of forecasting, crude oil and refined products

Francis has extensive experience of oil and energy forecasting and consulting and over the years has worked for a number of the leading consulting companies, including Petroleum Economics, EMC - Energy Market Consultants, KBC Advanced Technology, WoodMackenzie and Icis.

During his career he has worked extensively in both the upstream and downstream sectors of the oil industry, covering the full value chain from crude production through to refining and developing forecasts and forward looking analysis of market fundamentals, prices and margins. He has also worked in natural gas forecasting as well as coal and power.

From his early days as a researcher, Francis has performed a wide range of analytical functions to become a lead consultant and manager, working on numerous single-client project assignments, making regular presentations to retainer clients, supervising preparation of regular market outlook reports on the crude oil, refined products and gas markets and speaking at conferences.

Kirill Portnov, Logistics

Tom Searle

Tom Searle, Biomass, petroleum coke

Tom is a Research Analyst based in the London office.  He has undertaken a wide range of projects since joining Argus, including several focused on coal, power generation and global product movements.  He is the lead author of the Argus petroleum coke multi-client study.

Prior to joining Argus, Tom worked for a renewable energy consultancy and was the sales and marketing manager for one of the UK’s largest wood pellet distributors.
Phil Shaw

Philip Shaw, Refining

Philip Shaw is Senior Vice-President, Consulting Services, based in London. He is responsible for Argus’ advisory work globally, ensuring that the company’s research projects are delivered to the highest possible standards. 

Philip started his career at BP before moving into energy consulting, working with Accenture and latterly Deloitte, where he worked with a range of oil and gas companies delivering projects across the upstream and downstream sectors. Prior to joining Argus in 2011, he ran the research and advisory practice at Energy Intelligence Group.

Philip trained as an engineer at Nottingham University, and was awarded Chartered Engineer status by the Institute of Petroleum. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, which has published several of his papers in recent years.

Nasreen Tasker, Asphalt

Nasreen Tasker is Vice-President of asphalt consulting, based in the US.

Nasreen has more than 22 years’ experience with the Americas and global asphalt markets. She is an expert in asphalt fundamentals, trend analysis, refining economics and pricing. Nasreen developed the Argus Asphalt Report 16 years ago, the first international report on asphalt pricing in the world.

Nasreen has undertaken many asphalt consulting projects for overseas and domestic clients, including projects on market analysis, price analysis and sources of supply. She has chaired 24 global asphalt conferences, done numerous presentations and consulting projects on asphalt and written articles on fundamentals and market changes. She has spoken at association meetings, including the Canadian Technical Asphalt Association, National Asphalt Pavement Association, Asphalt Emulsion Manufacturers Association, World of Emulsions (France) and Road Pavement Forum (South Africa).

Before Argus, Nasreen worked as head of asphalt at Poten & Partners. Prior to Poten, she was a business development and planning analyst at Phibro Energy. Her oil industry career started in the management development training program at Conoco in the supply and distribution department. Nasreen has an MBA and two Bachelor of Science degrees.
Yu Kin Yeo

Yu Kin Yeo, Refining

Yu Kin is a Vice-President in the Singapore office, responsible for leading delivery of all Asian consulting projects.

Yu Kin joins Argus from IHS Purvin & Gertz where he was a managing consultant. In a career spanning 24 years in various consulting roles in Singapore, Greece and the US, Yu Kin has covered oil, gas, coal and petrochemical markets. During his time at KBC Advanced Technology, he successfully built up a strategic consulting practice in Asia from scratch.
